March for Meals is a national campaign sponsored by Meals on Wheels America to raise awareness about senior hunger, recruit volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers and raise needed funds. According to Meals On Wheels America, 9.5 million seniors face the threat of hunger every day in America.
Minuteman Senior Services currently provides home-delivered meals to nearly 1,500 homebound seniors, delivering more than 240,000 meals each year. Yet a growing number of seniors continue to live a solitary existence, suffering from the effects of malnutrition because they are physically or financially unable to care for themselves. Many are simply too proud to ask for help. We are fortunate to not have a waiting list for the Meals on Wheels program, but that is only because of generous donors. Please consider making a donation today to help ensure no senior in your community goes hungry.
Community Champions, including federal, state and local officials, are taking the time to accompany a Meals on Wheels driver as they deliver a hot meal and a friendly hello to those who are homebound. Volunteers from all walks of life deliver meals a few times a month or more. If you are interested in becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, you can find out more here.
Updated 3/12: In light of the public health guidance related to COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus), we are doing our part to keep our frail elders and volunteers safe by canceling the ride-along component of our March for Meals campaign this year.
