Legal Services

Residents of Minuteman's sixteen communities age 60 or older may be eligible for free civil legal services through the Senior Citizen's Law Project (SCLP), a project of Greater Boston Legal Services funded in part by a grant from Minuteman Senior Services. The Project provides civil legal assistance (including legal representation, advice, referral, education and training) at no charge. Legal services staff make home, hospital and nursing home visits when necessary.

Legal Assistance is offered in the following areas:

  • Social Security and SSI Benefits
  • Public Benefits (food stamps, medicaid)
  • Evictions from public, subsidized, or private housing and other issues related to the rights of tenants, including eligibility for public and subsidized housing

In other areas of law, the Senior Citizen's Law Project offers advice and referral. Staff are available to conduct educational programs on a variety of legal issues of interest to seniors. Programs take place at Councils on Aging, Senior Centers, Nutrition Sites and other community settings.
