COVID-19 Update

June 23, 2021

As of this week, Massachusetts has reached its vaccination goal and we are well on our way to a return to normalcy!

As an agency on the frontlines of supporting older adults and people with disabilities, Minuteman Senior Services continues to stand ready to support residents in our communities. Here’s an update:

  • We are assisting existing consumers who have not yet received the vaccine, by scheduling appointments and helping to coordinate transportation when needed.

  • We are working with the local Councils on Aging to reopen our congregate lunch programs, generally located in senior centers and senior housing. Please check the town-by-town schedule here. We are proud to say that home delivered meals through the Meals on Wheels program continued without interruption throughout the pandemic.

  • Care Managers, Nurses, and Protective Services workers are resuming visiting consumers in their homes to check on their well-being and talk with them in person about the care they need.

  • Our Money Management, SHINE and Nursing Home Ombudsman programs, primarily staffed by volunteers, continued to serve consumers safely through the pandemic by adapting operational methods. These programs are gradually returning to regular operations over the next few months.

  • While many of our employees continue to work remotely, our main office in Bedford is open and fully operational.

Our emergency planning and commitment to our mission allowed us to provide services throughout the pandemic. We activated our long-standing Pandemic Continuity of Operations Plan, protecting our staff, volunteers and consumers by adapting our protocols which included social distancing and the use of PPE where necessary.

We owe much gratitude to those who helped us continue to serve the community during this public health crisis – the commitment of our staff and volunteers, the camaraderie of our sister agencies across the state, the leadership at the Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the generosity of so many donors that contributed to our Emergency Relief Fund, all essential parts of the safety net that people have come to depend on at Minuteman Senior Services. Thank you!
