Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels (MOW) program delivers a hot lunch to homebound, vulnerable seniors who are unable to provide good nutrition for themselves, and who meet certain guidelines. Special dietary considerations are available for those with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. This daily check in by a volunteer driver may be the only social contact an elder has and helps reduce the isolation often experienced by disabled seniors. Drivers are trained to identify and report observations or emergencies that might indicate a medical problem or the need for more intervention.

A nutritious meal delivered by a friendly driver goes a long way in helping maintain independence. Meals on Wheels provides a daily meal for individuals over 60 years old who are homebound and unable to prepare their own food. Deliveries are made between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday through Friday. The meals provide:
  • One-third of the Recommended Daily Dietary Allowances
  • 700-800 calories
  • Reduced sodium (part of a no-added-salt diet)
Eligibility for Meals on Wheels is determined by a Minuteman Senior Services case manager.

Evening Meals
For those needing additional assistance, a frozen meal can be delivered along with the hot noon meal.

Frozen Meals
A frozen meal program, delivered once a week, provides an assortment of several meals in a reheatable container. Those needing weekend meals can have two frozen meals delivered with their hot meal on Friday. This meal option accommodates individual needs and preferences.
