Maintain Your Brain!!!
Decline in memory is a function of aging and memory loss is one of the most common complaints of aging. There are, however, ways we can "exercise" our brain to slow down the decline in memory loss. THINK about these….
- Challenge yourself. Read widely, keeping mentally active and learning new skills strengthens brain connections and promotes new ones.
- Relax. Tension may prolong memory loss.
- Make sure you get regular and adequate sleep.
- Concentrate on what you want to remember.
- Minimize and resist distractions.
- Use a notepad and carry a calendar. This may not keep your memory sharp, but does compensate for memory lapses.
- Take your time; pay attention to what you are learning.
- Organize belongings. Use a special place for important objects such as car keys and glasses.
- Repeat names of new acquaintances in conversation.
- Trust yourself more. If people feel they have control over their lives, their brain chemistry actually improves.
- Eat a well balanced diet.
- Avoid excessive drinking and drug abuse.
